Iceland Getaway:
NorthernLights and Ice Cave

ADVENTURE TRIP · EASY LEVEL 8 DAYS English/Spanish/ITALIAN

A complete adventure trip through southern Iceland, reaching the famous
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, also known as the Iceberg Lagoon, and the
glacier tongues of Vatnajökull. Traveling in a small group of up to 8
participants and accompanied by a Tasermiut guide, we will enjoy
exciting experiences such as walking on a glacier with crampons, exploring
an ice cave, visiting waterfalls and geysers, witnessing the Northern Lights,
as well as discovering Reykjavík, touring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and
relaxing in a warm thermal bath in contrast with the winter landscape.

WHAT AWAITS YOU ON THIS TRIP?
We will discover the south of this astonishing volcanic island at a time of year when few
travelers visit it, spending many nights far from the hustle and bustle of the capital and
away from light pollution, allowing us to feel like privileged observers of the Northern
Lights, the magical lights that illuminate Icelandic nights.
After the essential visit to the impressive Fagradalsfjall volcano, we will head west to the
Snæfellsnes Nature Reserve, home to the famous glacier and the Snæfellsjökull
volcano described by Jules Verne in his novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. Then,
traveling east, we will visit the Skógafoss waterfall, the glacier tongues of Vatnajökull in
Skaftafell National Park, and the famous and spectacular icebergs of the Jökulsárlón
Glacier Lagoon, a must-see on our journey through Iceland.
We will venture into an ice cave, explore the Golden Circle, made up of the powerful
Gullfoss waterfall, the Geysir geothermal area, and the historic site of Þingvellir, as well
as the capital city, Reykjavík. We will also enjoy a relaxing bath in the thermal waters of
the Sky Lagoon, and if weather and ice conditions allow, we will experience walking on a
glacier with crampons.

Day 1 – Flight to Iceland
Transfer by Flybus (scheduled bus service) from Keflavík International Airport to the accommodation in Hafnarfjörður or nearby.
Depending on the arrival time of your flight, you will have the opportunity to explore this charming Icelandic town near the capital at your own pace.
Dinner on your own and overnight stay at a hotel with breakfast included in Hafnarfjörður (or nearby, Reykjavík, or Keflavík).

Day 2 – Snæfellsnes Peninsula
We begin our journey westward along the N1 towards the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, a narrow strip of volcanic land that juts out into the ocean, located between Reykjavík and the Northwest Fjords region. Here, incredible mountains rise almost directly from the sea , creating extraordinary natural landscapes and offering a unique opportunity to
experience the island’s volcanism, dominated by the mythical and literary glacier-volcano Snæfellsjökull. At its base are steep cliffs and beaches, and its western area has been a National Park since 2001.
We will visit Iceland’s most photographed mountain, Kirkjufell. Afterwards, we will climb a small volcano from which, on clear days, we will enjoy magnificent views of the Snæfellsnes mountain range and the edges of the peninsula.
Our next stop will be at the black sand beaches of Djúpalónssandur, where we will find shipwreck remains scattered along the shore.
We will then stop in the village of Arnarstapi to admire its cliffs and the statue of Bárður, one of the main characters in Icelandic saga tales—half man, half giant. The sagas are full of supernatural stories, and Bárður and his daughters are still considered by many locals to be protective spirits of the area.
Overnight stay in a private apartment / private cabins.

Day 3 – The Golden Circle
After breakfast, we continue our journey towards Þingvellir, a must-visit site as it was home to Iceland’s ancient parliament and is also where the fault line separating Europe and North America is located.
We then continue to the Gullfoss waterfall, whose unique beauty is enhanced by ice icicles during the winter months.
After Gullfoss, we head to the Geysir area, where Strokkur is located—one of the most famous geysers in the world, which erupts thunderously every 6 to 8 minutes, shooting a column of water between 15 and 30 meters high. From there, we will transfer to our accommodation located on the Hvolsvöllur plains, away from the village—an ideal area for spotting the fleeting Northern Lights.
Overnight stay in a private house for the group.

Day 4 – Gljúfrafoss and Seljalandsfoss Waterfalls – Skógar Waterfall – Glacier Walk
We will visit the frozen Gljúfrafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, then continue to Vík and the slopes of Eyjafjallajökull. We will stop at Skógafoss before heading to the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue for a short, easy walk with crampons.
In the evening, we return to our accommodation with another chance to see the Northern Lights.
Overnight stay in a private house for the group.

Day 5 – Ice Cave & Black Sand Beach of Vík
We will take an excursion to a real glacier ice cave, where we can admire the incredible shapes, colors, and transparency of the ice.
We will then visit the famous Dyrhólaey cliffs, offering views of the vast black sand beaches that shape the island.
Our day ends in Vík, Iceland’s southernmost village, known for its sheep wool and its black sand beach dominated by the volcanic sea stacks known as the “Trolls,” which are linked to Icelandic legends.
Overnight stay in a hostel.

Day 6 – Skaftafell National Park – Vatnajökull Glacier Tongues – Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
We enter Skaftafell National Park, which is home to Iceland’s largest glacier, the famous Vatnajökull.
We will enjoy the large glacier tongues where we can contemplate the most spectacular views of the enormous glacier, its ice tongues, and its spectacular formations.
We will continue our journey towards Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, one of the most beautiful and spectacular places in Iceland: a glacial lake that flows into the sea, where
we can enjoy a landscape full of icebergs and, in the background, the Vatnajökull glacier tongues; an overwhelming spectacle that we will capture with our cameras.
Overnight stay in a private house for the group.

Day 7 – Reykjavík
To start the day we will head to Reykjavík to spend our last day.
Accompanied by the Tierras Polares guide, we will visit the most important tourist areas and landmarks of the Icelandic capital. Laugavegur Street, in the very center of the capital, brings together almost all of Reykjavík’s commercial and leisure activity, filled with outdoor shops, cafés, breweries, restaurants… At the harbor we can taste the local fish and visit the Harpa building, a concert and conference center made up of a framework of glass hexagons.
It is also worth taking a walk through the upper area of the city, where we will lose ourselves among charming wooden houses with small gardens, and its church, Hallgrímskirkja, frequently defined as the “Cathedral of Reykjavík” due to its size and appearance, although in reality it is not a cathedral but a church.
There is the possibility of taking an optional visit to the Sky Lagoon and completely relaxing in its warm waters with ocean views. The salts and minerals in its waters will revitalize our skin and restore it after all the experiences lived at 63° north latitude.

Day 8 – Return Flight
Transfer by Flybus (scheduled bus service) to Keflavík Airport.
